European Chafer Beetle

Japanese Beetle

European Chafer Beetle Larvae

The Japanese beetle(introduced 2017) and European Chafer beetle are invasive species that have made their way to the lower mainland and caused huge devastation on lawns. Both beetles are notorious for destructive feeding habits, particularly during the larval stage. This damages grass by feeding on the roots, resulting in dead patches of grass throughout your lawn. Once adult, Japanese beetles will feast on fruit, flowers and ornamental plants causing huge devastation. Multiple provincial agencies and municipal governments have led initiatives to stop the Japanese beetle and have had huge success. Their population has rapidly declined in municipalities like Vancouver.  The majority of the beetles we are seeing in lawns throughout the Lower Mainland are European chafer beetles.

Both species of beetle are treated the same way. Our preventative treatment will kill some of the larger grubs that have been in your lawn throughout the winter, however, it is much more effective on killing the next generation of beetles that hatch from eggs into larvae(grubs) in the summer with 95% kill rate!

We do our treatments in the spring. And highly recommend doing both front and back lawn. Our treatment is applied to the soil where it is absorbed by the roots of the grass and is ingested by the larvae from late summer into fall as they feed on the roots. Once ingested it targets the grubs muscle cells by disrupting the flow of calcium. The muscles are unable to function properly and this leads to paralysis and then death. Its very important to do an annual spring treatment to ensure the grubs to not return. Contact us now for your hassle free quote!
